Understanding your audit results.

A plain-English guide to severity levels, finding categories, and what to do with each one.

Severity levels

Every finding is assigned a severity so you know what to work on first. Severity describes impact on the person using your site — not legal risk.

Critical

Barriers that can block someone entirely — for example a form that cannot be used without a mouse. Address these first.

Serious

Issues that make content significantly harder to use, such as images with no alternative text or form fields with no label.

Moderate

Issues that cause friction or confusion but usually have a workaround, like a skipped heading level.

Minor

Small improvements that tidy up the experience. Worth fixing, not urgent.

Finding categories

Each finding also falls into one of four categories, which tell you what can happen next.

Auto-fixable (Free)

Issues the free plugin can correct at render time with a fix rule you approve — for example adding missing alternative text or a language attribute.

Auto-fixable (Pro)

Issues that need the more advanced fix types included in Pro plans, such as heading-order correction or table headers.

Needs human review

Findings where a person has to make a judgement call — for example whether the alternative text actually describes the image. The tool flags these; it does not guess.

Third-party embed — cannot auto-fix

Content loaded from another provider, like a donation or payment iframe. We report it and name the provider where we can identify it, but only the provider can change what is inside. These are never marked as fixed.

What to do with "needs human review" items

These are findings where automation can point at the problem but cannot decide the right answer. A tool can tell that an image has alternative text; it cannot tell whether the text is any good.

Work through them at your own pace: read the finding, look at the page the way a visitor would — ideally with a keyboard only, or a screen reader — and make the change in your content or theme. If you work with a developer or agency, the finding's WCAG reference and HTML snippet give them exactly what they need.

Fixing even a few of these items is real progress. Accessibility work is cumulative, and a dated record of what you have found and fixed is kept in your dashboard as you go.
